A call to garden...

John Michael Greer (whose blog is consistently excellent and on my short-list of must reads each week) has posted a "call to garden" of sorts, positing the once common but now lost concept of backyard gardening as a valuable tool to insulate families and individuals from economic shocks.

As this is a central concept to the life I'm trying so hard to build, I thought it was well worth a link.

  1. Interesting article. One thing he mentions in passing, and which is of special importance, is saving seeds. We've all become so used to the idea of buying in our seeds every year, we've hardly noticed that we're dependent on the large corporations deciding what we grow - and we don't need to be. There is a world of diversity waiting to be explored, saved, recycled, shared and swapped ... in which plants can be adapted to local growing conditions instead of being a one-size-fits-all product.
